INTERNSHIPS
Each semester and during the summer Tolar Sounds Audio Services provides up to a dozen interniship positions to students in the Recording Arts and Music Industry Majors at Chico State University and Butte Community College. The internships are treated like a class. They are unpaid positions that award 3.0 units of credit toward the major curriculum, registered under the course designation of MUS 289C. One internship program for sound reinforcement has been developed and is offered once every semester and once during the summer session.The internship program is outlined below:
Sound Reinforcement Internship
The sound reinforcement internship is designed to give Recording Arts student
s a chance to experience live and commercial sound reinforcement as a possible career option. It is offered each semester and once during the summer to between four and eight students from Chico State University. The internship requires that each student sign up and participate in one complete show or event each week and attend a weekly training meeting. Participants must be currently registered students at the University, have adequate transportation, be trustworthy and prompt and must have a positive, professional self image.

INTERNSHIP ACTIVITIES
Multiple system setup and design.
Full Range, Biamped, and Triamped systems.
Wiring, signal flow and gain structure.
Most requested industry makes and models.
Troubleshooting a sound system.
Mixing consoles and outboard gear.
You will learn how to patch and operate each of the following consoles:
24 channel Mackie
24 channel Soundcraft Spirit
32 channel Crest GtX
32 channel Spirit Monitor Desk
32 channel Allen & Heath GL3300M
48 Channel Soundcraft MH3
56 Channel Yamaha M3000

Mixing and bussing techniques.
Effects loops, inserts, and talk back.
Work with as many as 8 gates and 8 compressors in the live sound environment.
Programming and using reverbs, delays and multi-effects. Units include:
Lexicon PCM 80,90
Yamaha SPX990, REV500
TC Electronics M-One, D-Two
Alesis Quadraverb 2, Microverb 4
Monitor mixing
Master the feedback environment and learn to recognize frequency.
Work with up to eight monitor mixes.
Setup and operate a concert level stage monitoring system.
Learn what a good vocal monitor should sound like.

Work with major touring acts as well as local talent.
